“My idea of good company, Mr. Elliot, is the company of clever well-informed people, who have a great deal of conversation;
that is what I call good company.” —Persuasion, Chapter 16
Welcome to the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) Maryland Region
Everyone who has an interest in Jane Austen and her times can become a member of JASNA – scholarly credentials are not needed. To become a member of JASNA, please visit the Join page.
Since spring of 2020, JASNA MD has been meeting mostly via Zoom. This has allowed not only our local Maryland, DC and Virginia members to attend events, but also those from across the U.S. and Canada and around the world. The JASNA MD Executive Committee has agreed that virtual meetings will continue and be paired with some in-person activities.
Virtual meetings have featured lively discussions on the latest film adaptation of Emma; making a reticule; how challenging it was to dress in Jane Austen’s day; a virtual trip to Austen’s England; a Jane Austen Murder Mystery; food in the time of Austen; a debrief on the Virtual Annual General Meeting; and Christmas carols Austen might have sung or played. Our Event Gallery highlights virtual as well as previous in-person events from the past several years.
Active members of JASNA are welcome to attend our meetings. Non-members can attend one meeting to see if they are interested, but make sure to visit Join for more information about membership if you would like to continue participating.
The Program Planning Committee is hard at work planning virtual events for the year. The calendar of current events and registration information can be found at Meetings & Events.
Looking for some Austen-themed or -related things? Visit the Emporium and peruse our merchandise. JASNA MD is also a 501(c)(3), so please consider making a donation to support our activities, too.
