“One Very Superior Party: In Which Mrs. Elton Shows the Inhabitants of Highbury ‘How Everything Ought to Be Arranged’”
Presented by Kim Wilson
In Jane Austen’s Emma, snobbish Mrs. Elton criticizes the society parties held in Emma’s village of Highbury and plans to host “one very superior party” to show how a truly elegant party should be held. This informative talk, accompanied by amusing illustrations of Regency-era parties, games, foods, and table settings, will show participants what Regency parties would have looked like and how they can easily re-create one at home.
